LPNR - 1250 Concepts of Nursing Prerequisite(s): Admission to Practical Nursing program Co-requisite(s): BIOS-2050 , LPNR-1250L , LPNR-1250S , LPNR-1410 , and LPNR-1410L Concepts of Nursing is a lab/theory introduction of practical nursing education. The concepts focus on utilization of the nursing process, communication skills, professionalism, legal and ethical issues related to nursing practice, inquiry-based practice, and skills necessary to provide a safe patient-centered environment. The content proceeds from simple to complex. Emphasis is placed on the basic needs of the unique individual through the lifespan, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, and the role of the student as a member of the health care team and community. The concepts taught within the scope of practical nursing present the student with the theoretical background needed to correlate with patient experiences. The nursing process and theories of basic human needs are utilized in organizing delivery of inquiry-based practice and safe patient-centered care. Students will practice basic nursing skills in a laboratory, and/or simulated experiences. This is a 5.5 credit hour course: 3 credit hours for theory and 2.5 credit hours for laboratory experiences.
