ADNR - 1141 Adult Health & Illness I Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of the first semester of the traditional option of the AD-N program. Co-requisite(s): ADNR-1122 , ADNR-1134 , and ADNR-1141L This theory/lab/clinical course is the first of four courses presented to develop an understanding of health promotion and illness in the adult patient. Emphasis is placed on the role of the registered nurse, as a member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team, in the provision of culturally sensitive, safe patient-centered care. The nursing process, inquiry-based practice, and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs are utilized as the conceptual bases for presentation of this material. Topics include the introduction to nursing care of the adult client patient; fluid, electrolyte, and acid/base balance; perioperative care; skin integrity; and the musculoskeletal and upper gastrointestinal systems.
Content in the course is presented in two (2) theory credit hours and two (2) lab/clinical credit hours. Clinical and simulated activities provide students with experience in patient care.
