LPNR - 1410 Pharmacology I Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Practical Nursing program Co-requisite(s): LPNR-1250 , LPNR-1250L , LPNR-1270 , LPNR-1270C , and LPNR-1410L This theory course provides students with working knowledge of the concepts of pharmacology, including classification, indication of use, mechanism of action, adverse effects, contraindications, drug interactions, and nursing responsibilities of safe medication administration. Informatics, nursing process, dosage calculations, client and family education, and age-appropriate techniques are incorporated as they apply to safe administration of medications to clients of all ages. Selected content and drug classes examined in the course include basic math concepts, introduction to pharmacology, intravenous therapy, and drugs affecting the endocrine, immune, urinary, and gastrointestinal systems.
