LPNR - 2290 Care of the Family Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of the second semester of the Practical Nursing program and LPNR-2280 Co-requisite(s): LPNR-1480 , LPNR-2290C , and LPNR-2720 This course applies fundamental concepts of the childbearing and childrearing family and learned concepts from LPNR-1250 , LPNR-1270 , and LPNR-2280 . Emphasis is placed on basic human needs, communication, professionalism, inquiry-based practice, and safe patient-centered care. Growth and development are explored utilizing the nursing process and applying Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and Erikson’s and Piaget’s stages of development. The principles of nursing process, cultural sensitivity, nutrition, and pharmacology are also integrated. Patient skills are supervised by the instructor and taught within the scope of the practical nurse. Patient experiences are coordinated with theory to provide a better understanding of how the child and family relate as a unit. Some patient experiences are practiced in a laboratory-simulated and/or role-playing setting.
This is a five and a half hour (5.5) credit hour course: three (3) credits for theory and two and a half (2.5) credits for laboratory/clinical experiences.
